Le Monde Béryl is a brand founded in 2016 by Lily Atherton Hanbury and Katya Shyfrin, with the aim of creating elegant and functional shoes inspired by traditional design elements, such as the Venetian gondolier's slipper, ballet flats and riding boots. The footwear is sustainably produced in Italy, handcrafted by expert artisans using traditional techniques. The brand stands out for the absence of obvious branding, focusing on refined details and a clear minimalist design language.
The founders are inspired by a wide range of sources, ranging from the cinema of the 70s to the paintings of Helen Frankenthaler, from ancient Greece to architecture and sculpture, emphasizing the beauty of objects designed to last and which, despite their simplicity, they contain thought and attention to detail. The brand name refers to "beryl", a family of gems with variable colors, which inspires the color palette of the shoes.
Production is characterized by a low-waste approach, inspired by traditional Venetian moccasins, which were made using scraps of velvet, felt and rubber. Each Le Monde Béryl collection aims to create classic and sustainable pieces, designed to be worn spontaneously and to adapt to different historical and cultural contexts, offering a sense of joy and collectability.
