The story of Barbour began in 1894 in Market Place, South Shields, in the northeast of England. For over 130 years, this fifth-generation family-owned company has remained rooted in the same region where it all started. The headquarters in Simonside, South Shields, also houses the factory where Barbour’s most iconic waxed jackets, such as the Bedale and the Beaufort, are still handmade today. This facility also provides essential services such as rewaxing and repairing wax jackets, the “Re-Loved” program that restores second-hand pieces, and the hand-repair of quilted models, all reflecting Barbour’s dedication to durability and artisanal tradition.
Over the years, the brand’s offering has expanded to include shirts, trousers, knitwear, dresses, accessories, footwear, and, of course, its legendary outerwear, all inspired by the uniqueness of the British countryside. In 2013, Barbour International—originally founded in 1936 and rooted in the company’s motorcycling heritage—became an independent brand with its own distinctive identity.
Today, Barbour stands as a global symbol, with a presence in more than 55 countries, including the UK, Europe, the United States, and Asia.
