Sebago

Sebago-Moc was founded by Daniel J. Wellehan, owner of five shoe stores, in collaboration with two local footwear industrialists, William Beaudoin and Joseph Cordeau. The brand's name comes from nearby Sebago Lake, which in the Abenaki Native American language means "elongated water basin," referencing its natural beauty. In 1946, Sebago-Moc launched its first moccasin model, the iconic penny loafer, hand-stitched in the indigenous tradition. This model quickly became a bestseller and remains one of the brand's cornerstones, continuing to stand out for its artisanal craftsmanship and timeless design.
